Now, Please understand, I wrote most of this in 7th grade, and I was going through a weird mental stage at that point in my life. It was weird... and this just proves it. But it's the only story that I've ever finished. The worst thing is, this whole story is only the first "book". So, here we go. *crosses fingers*

THERE WILL COME A TIME
BY TORI

Prologue

A bone chilling wind whipped through the trees, freezing them until they cracked. Wisps of clouds slid across the sky to reveal a full moon. It’s amazing bright beams cast down upon hard stone. The stone was straight and smooth, set as many black bricks. The bricks seemed to shine silver in the enchanting moonlight. They formed the walls of a huge fortress. Normal creatures with no imagination would call this structure a castle.

But the beings inside weren’t all royalty, and there were no servants. Everyone there was quite equal. But on this night, inside the great walls a gathering was taking place that included only those of great importance.

A large room was filled with a small group of high position. The king and queen, two generals, a few well honored hunters, and the one who was the reason for this meeting. She had been out hunting when a slayer shot her in the side with a poisoned arrow. Her patrol brought her back here to this room to be medically treated, but they could tell that there was more killing her than her wound. So they called together the council to try to find out what had taken over her.

She lay there on a mattress shaking violently and muttering words of an ancient, forgotten language. Those around her watched in silence, waiting for an answer to this madness.

Finally a distant clock started to chime midnight. One, two, three four… Each sound echoed off the walls and locked doors. Five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve.

On the twelfth ring, the girl stopped shaking and fell silent. Her chest didn’t rise and fall, but this wasn’t the worry of the council. It never did before. What made them fear was that she was the beloved princess, and Death was hovering over her now still body. She hadn’t been taken yet, but her time was close.

Suddenly, the girl’s eyes shot open, but they weren’t the sky blue they once were. They were blood red and filled with fear. Then a ghastly voice which wasn’t her own came from her frozen lips.

“There will come a time when war befriends peace,
Enemies will become alliances,
Haters will become lovers,
Demons will become angels,
And the darkness will be saved by light…”

Then she let out a cry of terrible pain before falling limp. Her eyes returned to their natural state and closed, never to be opened again. Death claimed her at last, after 200 years of waiting. Fear and sorrow gripped the room as her final words echoed in everyone’s ears. There had been no answer. Only more confusion. Whatever she had said didn’t make any sense, and it probably had nothing to do with her death. What did this all mean?

The hunters carried the body carefully out into the gardens and buried it near a rose bush. Her parents performed a funeral, despite the fact that there was a full moon, and their enemies came out during this time. The loss of the princess was a time of mourning.

Everyone entered the fortress again. No tears had been shed, and no one felt the bitter cold that had worsened. These beings weren’t humans. They were creatures of the night, cursed to be living death, damned forever to need to survive off of blood. They were enemies of a nearby kingdom, who sent slayers to destroy them.

They were vampires ready to seek revenge for their loss.

Chapter 1
The day was bright and sunny in our kingdom. High above my head in the branches of a maple tree sang a flock of nightingales. Their song echoed merrily throughout the land.

“Don’t you just love this time of year?” Trixie said. Me and the others nodded.

“Summer is wonderful,” Jordan replied. “No school to worry about, the weather is delightful…”

Sarah picked up as Jordan paused. “Guys are out showing their muscles…” The others broke into squeals of agreement, and I rolled my eyes. These girls were boy crazy.

“And no vampires,” Sabrina added. “Don’t you agree, Venus?”

I frowned and started walking a little faster. “Yah, I guess. I get a bit of vacation.”

This wasn’t quite true. My family and I are vampire slayers. Whenever one wanders into our town, it’s our job to terminate it. But there was no such thing as a vacation from slaying. Vampires hate the light, and work to avoid it. Even in summer, though, nothing, not even longer days could stop one from sneaking in at NIGHT if it wanted to.

There would be no break for me.

We fell silent and kept walking. Once we stopped at a store window to look at, and for a few, admire our reflections. My eyes darted from one panel of glass to the next in envy.

Trixie had straight golden hair and glittering blue eyes. She was short and peppy, caring more about herself than anyone else.

Jordan had long dirty blonde hair and grey eyes. She spent her days in other worlds full of fun and laughter.

Sabrina had short brown hair that was always in pigtails. She had amber eyes and was quite serious. Probably my favorite of the bunch.

Sarah had reddish hair and eyes like coal. If any normal human looked at her, they could easily assume she was a vampire. But though she did have that type of style, she wasn’t such a creature. Unless vampires love parties and boys. Some do, but all in all, Sarah was human.

And there was me. My dark hair looked black, but it was actually a very shadowy blue. My cheeks were pale instead of rosy. My lips I would call purple, faint and small. They were usually curved into a frown, trained to do so after years of darkness. I was slim, and I planned to stay that way. My arms and legs were covered in scars. I was not beautiful like my friends. I was just Venus Coleman the Vampire Slayer.

We walked on, but stopped again and again. Boys would pop out of nowhere to hug the girls or to glare at me. They were all my exes. I have had terrible luck with relationships. I would find a guy that I thought was perfect for me. Then he would say or do something stupid, and I would break his nose and stomp off.

Once I almost found someone that I was sure I would want to marry. But I found out after a couple of months that he was a vampire. I let him live because I loved him, and he ran off without a trace. His name was Blake. He was so hot. I remember that silky brown hair that I would stroke my fingers through, those silver eyes that could read my soul and answer all my wonders honestly.

I was thinking of Blake as I continued on with my companions. Suddenly I felt someone yank at my wrist, pulling me away and into an alley.

Before I could do anything I felt arms wrap around my waist. Looking up I saw the smug face of Cody, my stupid ex #9.

“Venus, it’s been a while. Did you miss me?”

Miss him!? Absolutely not! He was such a jackass, and I hated him. We went out with each other for two days before I decided he wasn’t my type. He had been leaning in to kiss me when I punched him in the nose and ran away. One year later, here he was again.

“Miss yah!?” I spat, struggling to break free from his arms. It was no use. He had muscles like steel. Most girls would find that attractive. But I wasn’t like most girls. “No way! Now let go, you bastard!”

He frowned and pulled me closer to him. Our lips were just inches apart. Oh, shit. “That’s sad to hear love, cause I missed you. Is it true you are single again?”

Yah, it was true. A few hours ago I had dumped stupid ex #572 for being a double crosser.

“Yah, but I ain’t dating you again,” I hissed. Our lips were even closer now. I struggled again. Finally I broke free and stumbled away. Cody shot a dirty look at me but kept his voice smooth.

“Please, love. Don’t act this way.” He came forward to try again, but this time I was ready. My fist flew out and collided with his jaw. CRACK! I smirked at the pleasing sound of bones breaking. I left him there to hold his jaw in pain and joined my companions again. They had been watching the whole scene in envy for Cody’s kisses. Now that it was over, we continued our walk.

***

The sun was sinking behind the hills of grass and life. We were far from our homes, and we knew it was time to be heading back.

“My parents will ground me if I’m not back by suppertime,” Trixie squealed. “And Chelsea is having a party on Friday. I must go!”

I gave an exasperated sigh. Chelsea was a very popular girl, and probably the only person in the entire town who had broken more hearts than me. My friends loved going to her parties, but I hated them. Anyone who went into one came out drunk. The first party I went to, I tried a Bud Light. That stuff is disgusting! But right away I fell into a coma since my body wasn’t used to alcohol. My first party quickly became my last.

“C’mon, Trixie,” I muttered. “Don’t you have better ways to spend your time then getting drunk every Friday?”

She shrugged. “But I really must go. I bought new shoes and everything.” I sighed, but held back any more comments.

“Then let’s get back,” Jordan said. So we started heading back home. I looked over to my right at the edge of the Forbidden Forest. I had a feeling that there was a shortcut to our destination through those wild trees. Or an adventure.

Sabrina recognized the adventurous look on my face. “Oh, no. We aren’t going in there.”

My eyes narrowed into slits. “Why not?” I knew what the answer would be.

“Vampires!” all four girls hissed at once.

“They would kill us!”

“They’d suck our blood until we were dry!”

“None of us would survive!”

“And then I would miss the party!”

I chuckled slyly. I knew for a fact that what they said about vampires wasn’t quite true. In general, vampires keep to themselves and feed off of animal blood. I considered them quite innocent, actually.

It is of now of this moment that I admit my true feelings towards vampires. I find them enchanting and delightful. I said that I was a vampire slayer. That is a lie. I’m SUPPOSED to be a slayer.

Because my parents work to destroy vampires, it is expected of me to follow in their footsteps. When I was five, I was taken down to our basement to start training. Our basement served as a dungeon and is used to hold vampires sentenced to torture. There I was, only a child, forced to harm a caught man. I remember taking one look at him and asking why he just didn’t turn into a bat and fly away. Stupid stories about vampires that could turn into bats!

Ever since I’ve learned every single detail about the creatures, even ones that my parents would never know. And as for that first vampire I saw, he escaped. But he didn’t fly away as a bat. I showed him a way out. And I got caught by my parents and punished. I’ve loved vampires ever since, but I still had to kill them.

“What am I, a rock!? If any vampires come I can always kill them.” I flashed them a look of power and great confidence. But it wasn’t enough yet.

“It looks pretty dark in there,” Jordan murmured as she stared at the awaiting woods.

“No problem.” I simply reached into the purse at my side and pulled out a flashlight. My parents made sure I was always supplied with things to take on a vampire. Because vampires hate light, the flashlight was needed. I pressed a small button, illuminating the tree in front of me. “Let’s go.” With that I entered the forest.

***

“Ow!!!” Trixie cried as she got up. “I keep tripping over everything!”

We stopped walking and I shone my flashlight on her scraped knee. It was covered in little dots of blood.

“It doesn’t look too bad,” Sarah commented. “But it could attract vampires. We better keep a sharp eye out.” We murmured agreement and continued on.

After about another two minutes I stopped. Ahead of us was a huge tree. The shadows cast upon it showed several dark lumps dangling from the branches. Bats.

Before I could give my friends a warning to stay silent, Trixie screamed. “Oh, my god! Bats!!!!” The startled animals flapped towards us in a flurry.

The girls shrieked and hid behind a boulder, but I stayed out and shooed away the creatures. Then I turned back and yelled “You idiot! Why did yah have to scare them!?”

Trixie whimpered “They could have been vampires in bat form.” I opened my mouth to shout another retort, but stopped myself. Instead I took a couple of deep breaths and relaxed.

We kept going on. No matter how far we went, there was no ending to the continuous trees.

“Admit it, Venus,” Sabrina said. “We’re lost.”

I sighed and nodded.

“Great. Now the vampires are going to get us!” Sarah hissed.

Trixie whined “And I’ll miss the party!!!”

As they continued to complain, I kept searching in silence. Suddenly the flashlight’s beam fell upon a shadowy figure. I gasped, and it vanished as the beam of light moved away. I shone it back on the area, but there was nothing there.

Half a second later a man’s face was right in front of mine. My companions yelped in shock.

“Woah, calm down girls! I’m not gonna hurt yah,” he bellowed in a strong voice. In obedience the girls relaxed. I studied his face.

He looked about 25 or so years old. His eyes were a pale blue, his hair light brown and short. Aw, damn, he was actually… hot!

He smiled and held out his hand. “Kevin.” I took his hand and shook it. His grip was firm, his flesh icy.

“Venus. And they…” My free hand gestured to the others. “Are Trixie, Sarah, Jordan, and Sabrina.” They waved flirtatiously. They must have thought he was hot too.

“What are you five doing here in the forest? You do know it’s forbidden.”

Jordan answered for us. “We got lost.”

Kevin chuckled. “Well, it is getting late. Tell you what? Me and my friends are hunters from the town. We can escort you back safely.”

As if on cue, seven more men stepped out from behind the trees. Holy shit, they all were so hot! I could tell my friends were thinking the same.

“Okay. Let’s go.”

Then I saw one guy’s eyes lower to Trixie’s knee. The others might not have noticed this, but his eyes changed. They turned RED. It was now I was feeling a terrible chill brush against my legs. And a thought came to me. If they were hunters, where were their weapons?

Oh, no. They weren’t from the town. They weren’t going to help us. They weren’t human. They were vampires.

We started to walk deeper into the woods, surrounded by the men. I could hear my friends giggling behind me. They had no idea what was really going on. But I wasn’t in a hurry to tell them what I knew. They would just panic, and the vampires would be right on top of us. It would be best if I just kept quiet.

But sooner or later one of the men was going to read my mind and find out that I knew. What would happen to me then? Vampires have amazing strength, so I doubt I would be able to fight. And many are fast, so I couldn’t try to run. I would probably have to slay them. Oh, joy.

Suddenly the men turned to face us. I shuddered when I saw that all of their eyes had turned red. Their gaze was set on the blood covered knee of Trixie’s.

“I can’t take it anymore!” one shouted.

“Okay…” Kevin said smirking. He grabbed Trixie’s shoulders to keep her from struggling. Sarah, Sabrina, and Jordan looked at this in confusion. When they stole a glance at me in hopes for an answer, I just shrugged. There was nothing I could do to stop what was going to happen.

Then Kevin leaned into Trixie’s neck and bit with the fangs he had hidden well. She cried out in pain as blood rushed through her into Kevin’s mouth.

Moments later she fell limp onto the ground.

She was dead.

“Oh, my god!” Sabrina cried, rushing over to me to take shelter behind my back. The others followed pursuit. “Vampires!”

The men didn’t seem to notice. They just dropped to their knees and fed. It was a ghastly sight. The only one who didn’t join them was Kevin, for he had already had his share.

“Now, what about you four? Oh, yes…” He grabbed the one closest to him, Sarah, and slammed his fist into the side of her head. She fell down unconscious. The two remaining behind me screamed and started to run off.

Kevin was quick and knocked them out in seconds. Then he turned back to me to finish me off. His fists were clenched and his face stuck in a smirk. I reflected his facial expression to show I wasn’t scared. And I wasn’t, honestly. I could make my way out of this. I shone my flashlight in his pale eyes, and he shrunk back instantly.

His men by now were finished, and ganging up on me. So I turned and ran as fast as I could. I found a downhill area that was smooth.

I saw lights from the town just beyond it’s ending. I could make it! I started sliding down the hill, the vampires right behind me. But I quickly made it to the bottom and ran.

But I wasn’t lucky enough to escape. I tripped and fell on a tree root. Seconds later, pain burned through my head like fire and all turned black…

Oh wow! Your writing style is incredible, Tori. You give the characters real personalities. I see a lot of teenage angst in this story... XD

Of course, everyone knows werewolves are the way to go. And I don't mean those people who turn into regular wolves except bigger, I mean those people who turn into half-man, half-wolf abominations.

And I have werewolves later in the story.... Like... Chapter 6,7, or 8.

I shouldn't have said that, should I?

And it gets very gross later. BLEH. Why did I start posting the story?.... Oh yah. Ookaminami said I should try. Or was it Ryi?
