Mythic (Character sign up & Ideas thread)

Do you remember tales of the Mythic Age? The age of discovery? Of creation? It is strange that you have never heard the tales...but I shall tell you the story nonetheless.

The Mythic Age. It existed long before humanity can remember. Eons ago, a great energy source flowed through the galaxy, touching all of its corners. Some believe that this power granted life to all the races of the universe. Others say that this power did not exist around us, but within us. The power was called Mana. Magic.

Magic. It was a power that affected each person differently. Some could conjure fire from their fingertips, some could move objects a thousand times their own size by uttering a single word. Others could call upon the destructive and corruptive power of darkness. With Mana, anything was possible. Endless creation took place. Cities were built overnight, creatures from the Nether Realm could walk freely in the streets. Man's ambition suddenly had no bounds.

With endless possibilities, Man's ambition soon became his greatest enemy. Wars were fought. People died by the hundreds. Power soon became Man's only goal.

No one quite knows how or why it happened, but one day, Man's grasp on Mana suddenly vanished. The cities crumbled, and the Nether creatures disappeared, back to their planes of existance. That was the end of the Mythic Age.

Certain scholars and scientists will try to tell you that the Mythic Age was just that: a myth. This is false. We may not have written records of what transpired, but we have something just as good: relics.

Relics from the forgotten age still remain, scattered throughout the galaxy, hidden from the eyes of mortal men. They have power, but it is locked away. Just think of it! Fragments of magic still exist before our eyes, but blocked somehow. With these artifacts, we may just be able to determine how to return magic to the galaxy...and why it was taken from us in the first place.

I had an idea for a new story! Up above is kind of a background for the story, that introduces some of the story's history.

The story is set in a futuristic time, with space travel, clones, laser weaponry...you know, stuff like that. If you would like to sign up to be a part of the story, here's how to do it:

I have a few locations thought up. I'm just gonna list 'em here.

Asteria Space Station: A space station placed right in the center of the galactic trade routes. As such, a lot of commerce and people pass through there.

The Necropolis: A once pristine city, now reduced to ruin thanks to an unusual viral outbreak. Many treasure hunters have gone to that place, seeking to loot it. Few ever return. The ones that do, however, speak of terrible horrors that lurk within the city...

The Chronos: A moderately sized space vessel that can hold a decent sized crew. Got it's name for it's "aged quality".

Pravus I: Home planet of the Praviles, insectoid-reptilian creatures. Most of the planet is covered with volcanic rock, with a few dead forests and small lakes. Because the planet houses many volcanoes, the air is toxic to most creatures not born there.

Toran: Home planet of the Toranians, a race of humanoid creatures with a deep link to machines and technology. Currently, the planet is suffering from a destabilized economy and a raging civil war.

Gaharn: Once the home planet of the Kair'n, a proud, warrior species. The planet is slowly dying, and there are barely enough Kair'n left in the galaxy to fill one of it's continents.

Characters!

William "Bill" Ebonheart: Once a member of the Galactic Federation's army, he has since turned to the mercenary life. If something needs to be found, captured, or eliminated, then Bill is the guy to see. He is the current owner of the Chronos, a small frieght ship. Word in the underground is that Bill owes a large sum of money to some very...unsavory people.

Allen Caelum: Allen is the product of Asteria station's Xenotopic research. Seventeen years ago, the Asteria xenoscience team proposed an experiment that would combine human and alien DNA to create a half alien hybrid. The alien DNA came from a male Pravile, a creature with reptilian and insectoid features. Allen's mother, Dr. Aura Caelum, volunteered herself to carry the child and give her own chromosomes. Several months later, Aura went into labor, and Allen was born. Although he looks like an ordinary human young adult, he possesses several genetic features from his Pravile heritage and can even enter a "Pravile" state.

Zahannah Bane: A young Toranian girl with an aptitude for machines and technology, much like the rest of her species. Four years ago, her home planet of Toran fell into an unexpected civil war between the Toranian Government (Called "Royalists") and a rebel band of Toranians (called "Anarchists"). When the Royalists were attempting to shuttle civilians to "safe zones", the Anarchists struck, destroying the government's operation. Amidst all the confusion, Zahannah was separated from her parents. Deciding to flee the planet, Zahannah was able to steal a small Anarchist fighter ship and immediately took to the stars. She ended up at the Asteria Space Station and has been there ever since. Cheery and full of energy, with a love for technology, Zahannah now runs her own shop in the Merchant section of the station.

Haren: Like Allen, Haren was also the result of scientific research...in the field of cloning and genetic experimentation. Haren was created from the DNA of a fallen Kair'n warrior, a species that lies on the verge of extinction. While he was still embryonic, Kair'n scientists manipulated Haren's genetic code, in an attempt to make him physically and mentally superior to his bretheren. After the cloning and genetic manipulation processes were completed, Haren was subjected to a number of unusual, taxing, and sometimes cruel, tests and missions. The Kair'n clone eventually came to loathe his creators and decided to bide his time until he could escape. He didn't have to wait long. The Galactic Federation, recieving scattered reports of illicit cloning activities on one of Gaharn's lunar bunkers, stormed the facility, unintentionally freeing Haren. Haren quickly escaped the facility, though none of the scientists or GF soldiers know what happened to him. Haren, being from a warrior race, prefers the crushing power of a melee weapon to a blaster. Proud, strong, and quick to anger, Haren is a fine example of his species.

Frozen Fighter: Of all the bounty hunters in the galaxy, Frozen Fighter is perhaps one of the more mysterious ones. Little is known about the hunter, other than he tends to drift from planet to planet, seeking contracts or jobs. For reasons known only to himself, Frozen will not speak of his family, his parents, or his home planet. Frozen is rumored to be able to see the future somewhat, and can lift objects with his mind. These feats have only strengthened the rumors surrounding FF, that he is not human or that he was raised by non-humans. Often thought of as reckless, he was nearly slain during a past job, but was saved at the last second by a fellow mercenary named William Ebonheart. Although FF never shys away from a challenge, he is a bit of an introvert, and finds it hard to make friends.

Ghost: An experimental droid designed and built by Zahannah Bane. Soon after it's creation, the droid gave itself the designation "Ghost". Zahannah designed the droid to have the capabilities of a protocol and pilot droid, however, Bill, Allen, and Haren suspect there is more to Zahannah's creation then she has let on to. Ghost is capable of flying many different types of ships and is fluent in over twenty languages (with more being mastered everyday).

Aura Caelum: Allen's mother, known more commonly as Dr. Caelum. Although she is thirty-eight years old, she looks much younger. She is one of the lead researchers for the Asteria's Xenoscience division.

Victum "Vic" Solum: An unusual engineer who repairs the docked ships at the Asteria Space Station. He has recently taken up teaching Allen Caelum how to fight with a Pulse Blade, despite Aura Caelum's obvious disapproval. He says that he was part of the Galactic Federation military, but he deserted. He has not revealed why he deserted to anyone, not even to Allen. Allen has much respect for Vic, and even considers him a father figure.

Character name: Allen Caelum
Age: 17
Description: Stands around 5"10'-5"11'. Average weight. Fairly athletic, with developing muscle tone. Somewhat pale skin, with a mop of dark brown hair. Has bluish-green eyes that fluxuate in different lights, leaning towards either blue or green, still containing both colors however. Sometimes theres an equal balance of both. He has a crescent shaped scar from testing located on his collar bone.

Pravile features: When Allen becomes enraged, Pravile characteristics show through. From his skin forms the closely packed scales of Praviles, forming across his right arm and a small part of his torso's right side and the a small part of the right side of his face. The glossy black scales cover his hand and fingers, giving them a claw like shape, with very sharp tips. When he is truly mad, the scales lift and flare out a bit, giving the illusion of them being larger. He has yet to develop any of the other Pravile abilities aside from speed and strength, such as their ability to secrete powerful acid from their palms and fingertips and mouth/fangs, eating away at metals (and prey), or the distinct Pravile tail, a long prehensile scythe-like appendage that can be used to secrete acid and capture and kill prey. Other mutations with the Pravile genetic code have allowed for things like the absorption of energy through the tail, (primarily electric or Pulsar Energy) and to redirect it though their acid production, creating an "Acid Beam" effect, but this is an advanced technique and mutation that does not always show up. Other 'rumored', but not yet proven powers of the Pravile race include things such as the ability to siphon life force from prey or to create a poisonous gas, even to transform their acid into a gas form too.

Bio: Allen's mother is a beautiful woman, who does not look at all her age of 38. Aura Caelum has soft brown hair, usually tied up in a bun as she works in the labs of the Asteria Space Station. She gave birth to Allen at age 21, after volunteering to be a test subject in the field of alien-human hybrids. She was injected with the material of a Pravile, or an alien from the planet Pravus, thus impregnating her and allowing her to give birth to Allen. The two have since then been living in the Technology Sector, where the government runs the improvements upon technology and the like to keep the galaxy's economy going. It's location being nearby the Merchant Sector of the station provides for easy transportation of products and new technology.

Allen was born with the genetic code of a Pravile within him. This makes him half-alien and half-human. This is the cause for a number of different abnormal genetic phenotypes (traits). His multicolored eyes, as well as his unusual athleticism despite his lack of physical activity (there is not much to do in that sector of the Station). It has also resulted in Allen having a "Pravile side". It has been found that when he becomes angry, he rapidly develops the features of a Pravile, though this is still developing. As of now, he can only do it when he is in a state of high emotion, and even then, he cannot control it. The features do not take up his entire body either, primarily the extent of an arm, part of his side, and a small part of his face, such as his eye. He cannot use all of their powers, whose origins appear to be numerous mutations in the Pravile gene that pop up frequently throughout their lineages.

Allen has lived with just his mother since his birth. He is homeschooled by the personnel of the Station's Tech. Sector. He does not often get to see his mother, who is an important representative in the field of human-alien genetic development. The two however hold a strong bond with each other. Though his mother disapproves, Allen often sneaks away from his studies to learn the arts of fighting from a man in the back parts of the Merchant Sector (feel free to make up the name, unless you want me to). This man teaches Allen the ways of fighting with his favored weapon, the Pulse Blade, a sword with a thin system of metal machinations that outline it to that produce a larger blade of Pulsar Energy, able to cut through many materials. Variations have been made to attach to the users wrist, or take the forms of other Pulse Weaponry, such as the Pulse Scythe or Pulse Halberd. This is the same technology used in the Pulse Guns used by the military. (Allen does not own his own sword as of yet). Because of this long standing teaching, Allen feels a special bond with the man, looking up to him as a father figure.

The Pravile of Pravus I are humanoid aliens with reptilian and bug-like features. Common features include glossy scales, varying from deep blues and violets, to blacks and earthy browns (though black is the most common). Their sizes vary, some being small and lithely, while others are large and muscular. All Praviles have sharp claws for fingers, a bladed tail, powerful fangs and jaw muscles, and protective scales. Some have unique mutations, such as extra bladed extensions, such as morphing of scales on a Pravile's elbows, creating blades for which to fight. Each is unique in this regard. Males and females are distinguished by their arrangement of scales (which is near impossible to tell unless you are Pravile), but mainly by their eye color. Females have a violet hued pair of fiery eyes, while males tend to have bright, poisonous green colored eyes. The planet of Pravus is mainly volcanic glass, allowing the glossy Praviles to camoflage naturally. Almost all of the volcanos remain inactive however. The air is thick and only breathable for a while, as noxious gas makes up much of the atmosphere. The Pravile are naturally immune. Some regions have dead-looking forests, with twisted black trees, and murky lakes and seas, but again, a majority of the planet is volcanic land. Despite this, a variety of smaller prey scamper about the land, providing a decent food source for the Pravile. But, the planet has become increasingly hard to live on, resulting in some of the Pravile race to flee to other planets, such as that housing The Necropolis. Their natural immunity to toxins has provided some resistance to the virus, allowing a portion of those that travel to The Necropolis to survive, though they hide in shadows.

Character name: Zahannah Bane
Age: 19
Description: Female, 5’6”, rather athletic, a humanoid alien with green hair that falls below her shoulders and worn in such a way that it stays out of her face, gold eyes, and tan skin.

Bio: Zahannah Bane owns a small shop in the Merchant Sector of the Asteria Space Station, where she sells and repairs droids and weapons. She left her home planet of Toran a few years ago to find a place where the economy is more stable, and there isn’t a civil war raging. She has some fighting skill, and likes to use a laser scythe. Zahannah is also a technopath like most other Toranians.

Toranian traits: Toranians are humanoid aliens from the planet Toran. All Toranians have hair in varying shades of green or blue, and gold eyes. They range in height from 5 feet to 7 feet. Their skin tones range from very light tan to a very dark brown. Most Toranians are technopaths.

Character name: Haren
Age: N/A
Description: Male, gray skin with dark blue eyes, horns sprout from his head up to 2 ft long. A tattoo is is engraved into his skull, in between the two horns, a supposedly meaningless symbol. 8ft tall and muscular, proportionate to his height.
Bio: Haren is a clone, the beginning of a failed process to save his species, the Kair'n. He was designed to be the perfect one of his species and was to live for the sole purpose of killing those who oppose the Kair'n and recreating the once glorious race. When the cloning process was over, Haren was treated very much like cattle, he had no free will. Something destroyed the small bunker on one of the moons of Gaharn, giving Haren the opportunity to escape in one of the escape pods. His destination was uncertain, however he was full of knowledge, implanted into his brain, about survival, his species and more importantly killing others. Haren is full of knowledge about any weapon in the present day or the past, he enjoys ramming his horns into the gut of his enemies however, making his fights usually very bloody. Haren also has no social skills, as his race did not instruct him to be an envoy to other races, this usually ends up with a one-sided argument which results with the other person hanging over the side of a cliff, begging for his life.

The Kair'n are now mostly scattered throughout the galaxy and with so few remaining to breed, the race is dieing out. They are a tall and very warlike race, preferring a straight up battle to a shoot off. They possess inhuman strength and wisdom but their traditonalist ways is what has kept them from expanding to the most prominent race in the galaxy.

Updated the first post with some of the characters, and a few locations (Special thanks to Arata, Ookaminami and Draconor for creating such vibrant characters and places).

Character name: Frozen Fighter
Age: 22
Description: Frozen Fighter is a bounty hunter of sorts. He will track and kill/capture anything that he is payed to. He often will take on any job, no matter what he has to hunt. FF carries a powerful crossbow with energy bolts. He also has a vast array of grenades and explosives of all kinds. Frozen Fighter wears a greyish green trenchcoat and fedora of the same color. He uses two short energy blades for close-combat.
Bio: Frozen Fighter is a 22 year old human. He has great great speed and ingenuity. Frozen has the rare ability to be able to harness psychic energy. FF is able to predict what is about to happen, giving him the edge in most fights. He is also able to move and manipulate objects with his mind, although he hasn't quite mastered the skill yet. He is 6 feet tall and has an athletic build. He wanders the galaxy looking for monsters to hunt. FF is indebted to Bill because he saved his life once before. Frozen Fighter is in the same line of work as Bill, so they sometimes work together. Since FF is a wanderer, he doesn't like staying in one place for too long, but if he is contacted for a job, he will usually be found at the Asteria Space Station in one of the bars or pubs. He gets a thrill out of hunting criminals and aliens that are much bigger and much stronger than himself for is always up for a good challenge. Frozen Fighter doesn't like to talk about his past much, so nobody really knows too much about it. Frozen finds it hard to make friends because he doesn't stay anywhere long, but the ones he has, FF is extremely loyal to.

Just a few ideas I wanna jot down:

The Exodus Virus: The virus that wiped out the once pristine colony city of Erebos. Even though twenty years have passed since the outbreak, the virus is still rumored to exist.

Arzelyas: A Pravile Witch Doctor and also the leader of his tribe on Pravus I

Psycho: A form of the Exodus. Blind, but possess lethally sharp claws.

Bloodhound: A form of Exodus. They appear almost canine in appearance, and possess strong jaws for biting and tearing. They seem to be the main spreaders of the virus.

Goliath: A form of Exodus: Big and angry.

Stalker: A form of Exodus. Very odd, they seem to enjoy following their victims.

Are these any of the forms a victim of the virus can take, or does each form pertain to a different species of infected? Like, which one would result in a Pravile infected by the Exodus?

Oh, good point, Arata. Praviles and other species have slightly different mutations.

Ripper: A form of Exodus that only becomes apparant in Praviles. The blades in the back of the Pravile's mouth expand and grow, tearing through the Pravile's jaw and cheeks. The blades are then able to be controlled by the Exodus, which uses them as massive guillotines to slice their victims in half.
